Wise Words

Sometimes as a parent I may not always say the right thing to my kids, especially when they are in need of discipline. I have found something that I find very helpful to me when the time comes for the words of wisdom that us as Moms need to use.

Several years ago my friend Stephanie told me about this book and I asked her where I could get one at, well being the sweet person she is she brought one to me a few days later. I love using this book when it comes to talking to my kids about something that they have done wrong. This book covers many topics, some of which are; blame shifting, making excuses, bad friendships, coveting, defiant attitude (look), fear, lying, tattling, whining, and many more. Those of us who have kids know that at some point in time our kids are going to have at least one of the above mentioned enter their little lives. What better way to correct our children than going to the Bible. This book, Wise Words for Moms is like a flip calendar with charts showing each behavior with heart probing questions, reproof  (to "put off"), encouragement ("Put on") each of these have Bible verses that you can turn to with your children and talk about what is going on. There is also a column with additional verses.

Ginger Plowman, the author of this booklet says, "This chart was designed for the purpose of aiding  you in using the scriptures to drive out the foolishness "bound up in the heart of  [your] child" (Proverbs 22:15). It does not contain everything you need to know about the sinful behavior that you may come up against. Therefore, it should be used as a tool -not a substitute- for your personal research of the Bible when it comes to teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training children in righteousness."

With that said, I am going to include the booklet "Wise Words for Moms" as one of the gifts in my giveaway  along with a few other goodies. I will be picking a winner on Wednesday  (June 23) afternoon  around 4:00.
You will be encouraged and blessed with both of the books that you can win.

My First Giveaway!

**Update: We have a winner. Congratulations Carrie.

Back in May I entered a giveaway over at Moms, Ministry, & More. Winning over at Moms, Ministry & More, means that I agreed to do a giveaway too so that I can bless someone else just as I have been blessed.  I was excited to find out that I was the winner of this giveaway, but even more excited when my package arrived from Asia. I'm am going to share with you what all was in that package and then we will talk about what I will be giving away.

First there was this:

Place mats, a full setting with ducks to prop our
chopsticks on. These would be used in fancy restaurants.

And:
This is a hand embroidered journal cover. It was
made by a minority group woman, a Lolo Pi Yi lady.
These people live in South East China and the women
use their embroidery skills to make these covers as a
means to pay for their children's education. The
character on the front is "ai" which means "love".

And:
A hand fan, which are still used as many people
do not use or have air conditioning.

And:

A necklace with an old coin.

All of the information that I have posted with each picture was written in a nice little card that came with my package. She was so sweet to send me a "bit of China".

Here is a peak at one of the items that you will receive if you are the winner of my pay-it-forward giveaway.
I am currently reading this book, and it is one that I am thankful I found. Just a few words about the author and this book, Elyse discovered that when God says He is our helper it means He protects, aids, succors, supports, and surrounds us. She realized that a wife who is reflecting God's helping character desires to strengthen, comfort and protect her husband. She becomes to him a companion who offers what he really needs: help in his God given calling. (Taken from back of book.) There are also going to be a few other "goodies" included with the package you receive.

A few guideline for entering this giveaway:

* Leave a comment to this post letting me know you want to be included for a chance to win.
* If you are the winner, be willing to write your own pay-it-forward post once you have received your package with a link back to my pay-it-forward blog post.
* Create your own pay-it-forward package to bless one of your readers and be willing to mail it in a timely manner.

I will leave this giveaway open until Wednesday, June 23. I will draw a name that afternoon around 4:00. Please be sure that I can contact you, so that I can let you know you won. Please feel free to send your friends over to sign up for this giveaway.

Thanks for entering and please come back to visit me.

"TEENAGER IN THE HOUSE"

I am now officially the mother of a teenager. That's right our son is now 13.  I have no idea where the time has gone. It just doesn't seem like he should be that old already. The night before his birthday, I was writing him a little note in his birthday card and just broke down and started crying. You know I have less time with him at home with us now than what I have had him for in the past. In no time at all I will be sending him off to college, and actually that thought scares me to death. However, I do know that is what we as parents are called to do, give them love, guidance and nurture them. Then the day will come when it is time to let him go and make a life for himself. I am praying that the Lord will start preparing me for that day now. I am excited to see what all God will do in and through my son. I thank God for giving me such a great son.

So for his birthday, we decided to have a little celebration with just the four of his. Okay, so please don't think of me as a bad mom I didn't make Tyler's birthday cake, we went to Publix and he picked out his own cake. I must say that this cake was very good, it was a chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting. I know chocolate overload, but when you have just a small slice it isn't really considered to be "overload".  We were able to get out of town for a few days. Thanks to my in-laws for letting us use their condo for a quick getaway. We plan to do some swimming, walking trails, fishing, relaxing and more swimming. Most of all I am grateful to have this time with my family.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TYLER! I love you so very much.
